About Scholarship America®

College doesn’t happen by chanceSM. Scholarship America is here to help.
Learn more about Scholarship America’s mission and programs by reading its most recent Annual Report.

Scholarship America has a long history of helping students achieve their dreams. Scholarship America carries out its mission to expand access to educational opportunities and encourage academic achievement through its programs: Dollars for Scholars®, Scholarship Management Services®, and ScholarShop®. Scholarship America has distributed more than $1 billion to more than one million students through its scholarship and educational support programs since its founding in 1958. Scholarship America is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. For more information, visit www.scholarshipamerica.org.

Scholarship America draws on years of extensive experience with student financial need assessment. Outside of the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund®, Scholarship America manages more than 1,000 privately-funded scholarship programs. Naturally, Scholarship America draws upon this wealth of experience when managing Families of Freedom. When 9/11 occurred, Scholarship America was compelled to use its institutional knowledge and capabilities to support the long-term educational needs of victims’ families.

Dollars for Scholars, Scholarship Management Services, and ScholarShop
Dollars for Scholars is a volunteer-driven national network of community-based scholarship foundations in 40 states and the District of Columbia that raise funds to support local students through scholarships. Dr. Irving Fradkin founded Dollars for Scholars in 1958 with the idea that if everyone in his community gave a dollar, a great deal could be done to help local students. A great deal has since been done; there are more than 1,200 chapters across America.

Through its Scholarship Management Services program, Scholarship America is the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Scholarship Management Services has developed programs that work for organizations of all sizes, from those distributing only a few awards to those granting several million dollars each year.

ScholarShop is an activity-based curriculum that helps kids in grades 4-12 to set goals for their future and prepare for post-secondary education by helping them realize their interests and, inherently, their strengths. ScholarShop’s Options for Kids (www.scholarshopkids.org) features cartoon cool cat GARFIELD™ as an online, interactive guide in a game-like environment promoting positive youth development for 4-6 graders.
