A Welcome Message from Rhianna Quinn Roddy, Scholarship America's Executive Director, National Dedicated Funds:

Dear Friends,
In the days after 9/11, like so many millions of Americans, my thoughts and prayers turned to the children whose world was unspeakably transformed in mere moments. What would the future hold for them?

I knew, right then, that it would take more than just a village; it would take the commitment, the will and the effort of the entire nation to ensure that this special generation of American children would one day be able to walk into a bright, successful and happy future.

I remember being so moved by President Bill Clinton and Senator Bob Dole as they spoke about the need to ensure that these children had access to every possible educational opportunity. In response to their appeal, donations arrived from more than 20,000 corporations, foundations, educational institutions, grassroots organizations, and individuals, raising more than $100 million.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our nation, and indeed, the world, the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund was born. This unique Fund has already truly transformed the lives and supported the dreams of thousands of Americans, providing more than $40 million in needs-based scholarships to 9/11 families.

And we are not done yet. There are still more than 5,000 more students who remain eligible for scholarship assistance through the year 2030.

Today, as Executive Director of Designated Funds for Scholarship America, I am privileged to be part of the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund team. As I work to administer this critical program wisely and fairly, within the parameters of our actuarial assumptions, and in fulfillment of donor intent, I promise to ensure that those who are eligible and who want assistance get scholarship support. I will be there every step of the way with the parents and students and will continue to find ways to make the application process easier and the entire process more transparent.

I believe that education truly transforms lives. And I know that our efforts will help to offer a brighter future to those families who need and deserve it the most.

"The Fund has allowed us the ability to focus on the parts of life that are most important to us. The first year after 9/11 was very hard to take, but the scholarship has relieved some of the financial burden from my mother, brother and me.”
