Designated Subfunds

The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund subfunds listed below are operated in conjunction with the main Fund, but are governed by separate, independent agreements between Scholarship America and the subfund donors which detail their specific terms and conditions. These designated subfunds are for the benefit of specific groups of eligible Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund registrants.

Big Ten 9-11 Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships for those permanently disabled as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as well as the spouses and children of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Scholarships are provided for eligible beneficiaries attending Big Ten Conference member institutions. Financial need will not be considered. Awards are available for undergraduate and graduate study.

DuPont Scholarship Fund
Established by the DuPont Company to provide scholarships to the children of police officers, firefighters, and other uniformed emergency response personnel killed as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Recipients must have financial need and may attend postsecondary institutions in the United States and abroad. Awards are available for undergraduate study only.

Japan Relief Fund
Created by the Council for Better Corporate Citizenship on behalf of individuals and corporations in Japan who contributed funds to provide relief to individuals and families who suffered losses resulting from the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Fund provides scholarships for the dependents of uniformed officers and relief workers who died as a direct result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Recipients must have financial need and must attend postsecondary institutions in the United States. Awards are available for undergraduate study only.

NCAA 9-11 Scholarships
Provides scholarships for those permanently disabled as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as well as the spouses and children of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, with special mention made of former or current NCAA student-athletes. Scholarships are provided for eligible beneficiaries attending NCAA member institutions. Awards are available for undergraduate study only.
